Friday Archive Dive: Collaborations

Today's Archive Dive comes from Sept. 17, 2009, in a Q&A post about collaborations.

Q: How can you strike a balance between a writer and an artist? As an artist, I'm not so story-driven when it comes to creating something. I want to put the cool ideas down on paper and -- BAM! -- call it done. My writer, however, wants to write AND control the drawing process to where he lays out the panels in detail, and leaves little of the creative process up to me, making me feel stifled.

Our comic isn't up yet, but the story has been written for years. How can I set our writer/artist relationship at the beginning so we don't have to step on each others toes later on?

Working off the grid

I recently moved into a new studio, and I'm now working outside my home for the first time ever, and walking into my own space every morning is an absolute thrill.

But that's not the only reason I'm loving studio life these days.

My Internet connection will not be installed until next week. And surprisingly enough, that's been a good thing.

"How To Make Webcomics" is sold out. Again.

The second printing of "How To Make Webcomics" is almost completely sold out. It sold out at the distributor level a couple months ago, and now it's starting to run out at the retail level. The copies I had to sell on my store and at conventions are gone. Scott's stock has sold out as well.

To my knowledge, Dave Kellett has the last remaining copies of the book. (Scroll down.)

A third printing has already been discussed.

As soon as I have more news on this I will share that information here. Likewise when the books become available once more.
