Do-It-Yourself Custom Table Drape

While I was exhibiting at Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC, a Webcomics.com member noticed part of my table display and remarked about its usefulness. It occurred to me that I may have never shared that particular tip, so here it is now.

I bought a table covering big enough to cover eight feet of table (I fold a foot under on either side for a six-foot display).

Here's a diagram showing you how I did mine.

As an aside, thanks so much to everyone from Webcomics.com who came over to offer their compliments on the site last weekend. The outpouring of positive remarks and heartfelt sentiments really sent me home with a feeling of accomplishment. As I've said to many of you, I sincerely feel that a huge part of the success of this site is its members. You all make this site the best possible forum for professional webcartoonists. I can't say how much I appreciate your participation.

Friday Archive Dive: Nate Piekos on Comic Book Typography

Blambot's Nate Piekos has written a spectacularly helpful piece on comic typography that should be required reading for all webcartoonists -- particularly the section on one of the most prevalent errors, the crossbar "I". From the intro: Comic-book lettering has some grammatical and aesthetic traditions that are quite unique. What follows is a list that every letterer eventually commits to his/her own mental reference file. The majority of these points are established tradition, sprinkled with modern trends and a bit of my own opinion having lettered professionally for a few years now. The majority of these ideas have been established by Marvel and DC, but opinions vary from editor to editor, even within the same company. I'm often asked to bend or break these rules based on what "feels" best, or more likely, the space constraints within a panel.

Wibiya

Wibiya has developed a javascript-based tool that allows you to combine several forms of social-networking media with some very useful, all-purpose Web-site usability applications into a toolbar that appears at the bottom of your site.

You can see their toolbar in action on their site.

A discussion has be started in the Private Forum on the topic, and some of the questions have focused on how the company makes its money. Looks like it's time to delve into another Terms and Conditions document.

Open Call for Questions for Robert Khoo

For the next piece by Robert Khoo, he'd like about 10-15 questions to answer. This is a rare opportunity to ask the Business Guy of Penny Arcade to address specific topics.
